More InformationLocation
Our camper rental location in Munich is right in the north of the city. The nearest highway entrance is just a few minutes away and you can head straight onto the road after picking up your Campervan. Need to stock up your fridge first? There are various supermarkets in our neighborhood where you can stock up on tasty snacks.
Directions
Arriving by car out of Munich, the A92 will take you to us after just three exits. Depending on where exactly you’re coming from, you’ll need to take the “Ring” first. We are also easy to reach by public transport coming from the city center. The S1 will take you to Unterschleißheim and the Lohhof Nord stop. Once you get there, you can either walk for around 10 minutes or take the 218 bus to get to us.
Parking
There is usually enough space in our courtyard to park during pick-up. You will also easily find a parking space in the surrounding commercial area. Would you like to park your car safely in our courtyard during your trip with the caravan? Then simply book a parking space in addition. Why not take this opportunity to take a look at our extras?
Your station manager in Munich
Ulrike is in charge of the entire operation at our station in Munich. She and her team are passionate about making sure that your campervan is ready for departure so you can enjoy a relaxed start to your vacation. She will also be happy to answer any questions you may have when planning your trip.
A couple of questions for Ulrike …
My favorite travel destination is wherever I happen to be at the time. Whether it’s France, Italy, Montenegro or Albania. Every country has fascinating facets. The perfect combination for me: mountains (despite my fear of heights), the sea and the European canyons. Mixed with nice people, art and culture.
Camping site or free-standing? I like small, family campsites best. I also like free-standing campsites when the opportunity comes up – as long as they allow it. For example, at a wine chateau in France or on a farm. I get my inspiration from various online platforms and apps.
When I go camping, I still pack too much 😉
I really want to take the camper van, on a major tour throughout Europe and make it as far as North Africa.
What inspires me most about VANTOPIA, is that real camping experience is built into everything VANTOPIA does. The many useful details of the conversion, the cozy atmosphere in and around the camper and the well thought-out full equipment. And I am just as enthusiastic about the entire VANTOPIA team, who always put their heart and soul into their work!

Useful information about renting a camper in Munich
Ideas & tips for a few hours or days around Munich
Discovering Munich for non-Munich residents
Not from Munich and coming to the Bavarian metropolis to rent your camper? Then seize the opportunity and do some sightseeing. Or plan a few days with the camper in Munich and the surrounding area – especially in our VW bus, there are no limits to a city trip, because finding a parking space is no problem. The state capital definitely has enough to offer!
There are many highlights to discover in Munich’s Old Town. For example, the heart of the old town – Marienplatz. In addition to the magnificent town hall, whose tower you can climb, you will also find the Marian Column and the Fish Fountain. Directly behind the town hall is the Frauenkirche (which roughly translates to “Lady Church), also known as Munich Cathedral. The Viktualienmarkt is a great place for a tasty bite to eat at lunchtime – very touristy and not particularly cheap, but still an absolute must-see in Munich. After a short stroll along the Leopoldstraße promenade , you can head towards the English Garden, where you can marvel at the surfers on the famous Eisbach surfing wave or simply relax for a while.
And at the end of the day, a delicious beer and a fresh “Hax’n” or veal sausage in one of the many beer gardens is a must. We recommend the beer garden on Wiener Platz, especially on hot days. Here you can sit in the shade beneath a sea of chestnut trees and feel like you’re in the countryside despite the city center location. For those who value sustainability, we recommend the certified organic Muffat beer garden, almost directly on the Isar.
Adventure camping – Munich, the starting point to discover the world
The most comfortable and adventurous way to see the world is to travel by Camper van. No missed flights, no delayed trains and the world is your oyster! If you want to get out of Germany, we recommend starting in Munich! Starting in Munich, you can quickly explore faraway countries, as Munich is only a few hours away from the most beautiful travel destinations.
If you start in the south, you can head for the mountains and reach Austria in just a few kilometers, or opt for a trip to the coast of Croatia or Italy. From Venice to Florence, there is no limit to where your heart can take you.
If you’ve been bitten by the travel bug and want to get to Italy as quickly as possible, there are a few things to bear in mind. Unfortunately, you can’t just set up camp anywhere on the beach. But don’t worry, there are also tips and tricks on how to find a special place to sleep.
Our article on wild camping will tell you what you need to consider if you want to spend the night in the great outdoors. There are also fantastic alternatives to the classic campsite, which we have also summarized for you.
Are you from Munich and the surrounding area? Have you traveled to the metropolis in the south and still don’t know what to do next? Why don’t you drop by our location in Unterschleißheim? We’re sure to find the perfect motorhome to take you on an adventure! We look forward to seeing you!
Day and weekend trips in the Munich area
Are you from the south and fancy a weekend trip and a change of scenery? Are you just passing through and thinking about making a stop in the heart of Bavaria, but don’t yet know exactly all there is to discover? Then we recommend three must-see spots in the Munich area that are definitely worth the journey!
If you need a little break from the big city, you don’t have to take a week off work or fly to the Bahamas to end up in nature. Just two hours outside Munich, you will have completely forgotten the city and be amazed by the breathtaking view of Lake Walchensee. The Walchensee shines turquoise blue on sunny days and has therefore certainly earned the name “Bavarian Caribbean ”. There may not be a sandy beach here, but there are fantastic hiking and walking trails that lead to panoramic viewpoints from where you can admire the lake in all its glory.
Would you like to be enchanted and immerse yourself in a completely different world? Reading books and watching movies is not enough for you? Then we recommend the ultimate fairytale castle – Neuschwanstein Castle! The never-completed castle, which was built in 1868 for the Bavarian King Ludwig II, is an idyllic masterpiece with fairy-tale character. Enjoy the picturesque architecture and take a tour through the halls and rooms from a time long past.
Would you like a little more of an adventure? Then we recommend the Partnachklamm gorge near Garmisch as the third must-see. This unique natural wonder is a 700-metre-long gorge under which you can be amazed by the roaring masses of water. It is important to wear sturdy shoes and a rain jacket, as there is a chance that you will get wet. However, we are sure you will gladly put up with this to admire the waterfalls and rapids that have been carving their way through the robust rock for millions of years. Get involved in one of the most impressive natural monuments in the south!
Whether you are looking for adventure or tranquillity, the area around Munich offers incredibly beautiful destinations for a weekend or day trip!
Campsites in and around Munich
The city has a lot to offer not only for tourists who want to stay in a hotel, but also for anyone who rents a camper in Munich! Several campsites are very centrally located and have good public transport connections to the city center.
We can recommend the Munich Thalkirchen campsite, for example – it is located just south of Munich directly on the beautiful Isar river. The perfect combination of nature and proximity to the city, as you can be at Marienplatz in 30 minutes by subway. And for the little travelers, the nearby Hellabrunn Zoo is a nice change from the hustle and bustle of the big city.
The Nord-West campsite is just a 10-minute subway ride away from Munich city center. Your motorhome will put you “in the heart of Munich’s nature” and you can reach several swimming lakes within a radius of just three kilometers. In addition, the famous Munich Olympic Park is only 15 minutes away by bike.
Would you like to combine camping in Munich with an outdoor adventure or two? Then perhaps the campsite at Pilsensee – our VANTOPIA tip – is just right for you. Located directly on the lake in the Starnberger Fünf-Seen-Land region, you can swim, SUP or sail as much as you like. But there are also plenty of activities beyond the water. The surrounding area invites you to go hiking and mountain biking, both of which you can do directly departing from the campsite.
Winter vacation in a camper van
Imagine holding your first coffee in your hands and looking outside. The view outside is of dreamlike mountain landscapes, an icy lake and the first snowflakes are tapping on your window. Where did you go? Maybe the Grubhof in Austria, the Hopfensee campsite or the Seiser Alm in Italy? Discover a whole new world this winter, just outside your front door, because it’s winter camping time!
Just like in summer, you can take off on your dream vacation using four wheels, the only difference being that you can enjoy a completely different side of nature and should pack a second sweater. Discover everything from Munich’s old town to the Zugspitze this winter. There are no limits…
Whether you want to work remotely from the most beautiful places in the south or make the most of your long-deserved vacation, everything is open to you this winter! And if you’re already on the road in this winter, you can always make a detour to the snow-covered mountain and give the trend sport of the year a try! Ski tours are the perfect mix of nature and thrill and allow us to enjoy a uniquely fantastic view of the mountains and landscape!
Whether hiking, sightseeing or skiing, a winter vacation in a caravan offers you the flexibility of finding something to suit everyone! Together with the whole family, as a couple or alone. You have the choice of relaxing evenings with hot chocolate or pure adrenaline from glacier hiking to discovering ice caves in the Bavarian Schellenberg. You can set up your domicile at a campsite of your choice or travel to a new place every day.
This winter, you’ll experience moments you’ll never forget!
