There is usually enough space in our courtyard to park during the pick-up of your camper van. Parking is also easy to find in our neighborhood in Hamburg Schnelsen. Would you like to leave your car with us for the duration of your trip with the camper van? Simply book a parking space in addition. Why not take this opportunity to take a look at our extras?
YOUR STATION MANAGER IN THE HANSEATIC CITY OF HAMBURG
Luisa has been managing our office in Hamburg since 2021. She puts her heart and soul into making sure your camper van is perfectly prepared for you. As an experienced camper, she will be happy to answer your questions and advise you on which is the right model for you.
A few questions for Luisa …
My favorite travel destination is Sweden. I love the nature, the vastness, the sea, the lakes and the peace and quiet. And I’m always surprised that it really does look like something out of a picture book.
Camping or free standing? Preferably something in between – close to nature, quiet and ideally with a view of a lake, river or the sea. I like to look at providers of private sites such as Hinterland or Landvergnügen.
When I go camping, a good book and a good wine are a must.
I really want to go camping in the Lofoten Islands at some point, once in winter (northern lights) and once in summer (midnight sun).
What I like most about VANTOPIA is the respectful and trusting atmosphere and the attention to detail.

Practical information about renting a camper van in Hamburg
Camper hire in Hamburg Schnelsen
In March 2020, we moved our camper van rental business in Hamburg to the Frohmestraße and have been sending our customers on camping vacations from here ever since. Located right next to the A7 at the Schnelsen exit, you can quickly start an unforgettable vacation north or south right from here. A small shopping street is just a few minutes’ walk away, where you can do a little shopping ( as well as the big vacation shopping). When the weather is nice, we hand over the vehicle outside in our yard, relaxed and quiet thanks to the cul-de-sac location. In cold and wet weather, the handover takes place in our heated warehouse.
If you would like to rent a caravan from us, just drop by, we look forward to showing you our motorhomes and the location in Hamburg!
Campsites in and around Hamburg
Hamburg is a large city with millions of inhabitants and has a lot to offer – including for anyone renting a camper van in Hamburg. For self-sufficient motorhomes, there is a truly spectacular pitch right on the Elbe: between Landungsbrücken and the Altona fish market, you are in the very first row with a view of the Elbe and the docks opposite. Take the opportunity to visit the fish market very early on a Sunday to watch the colorful mix of slowly sobering Kiez visitors, early risers looking for a bargain and a breakfast and dance floor with live music.
Also centrally located is the camper van site on Heiligengeistfeld, which has sanitary facilities and a supply and disposal point. It is just a short walk from the large Planten un Blomen park and most of the city’s sights can be reached on foot, by bike or by public transport.
Things are a little quieter at the Elbepark Bunthaus motorhome site, which is located on a small headland surrounded by the River Elbe. From here, you can take the bus into the city for an exciting exploration tour.
Discover Hamburg for non-Hamburgers
You’re not from Hamburg and are coming to the Hanseatic city especially to rent your camper van? Then take the opportunity to explore the highlights of the Hanseatic city on a walk. The best place to start is at Hamburg’s Michel, the city’s landmark, and let the so-called Michel-Türmer welcome you with a trumpet at 10 o’clock in the morning. From there, you can walk through the Portuguese Quarter to the Landungsbrücken and enjoy the view of the Elbe and the ships. Just a few steps away is the impressive Elbphilharmonie concert hall, the modern Hafencity and the historic Speicherstadt warehouse district with its brick warehouses, which is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
If you want to enjoy a truly Hanseatic experience, book a harbor cruise and sail past the world’s largest container ships in a small barge.
Off to camping on the North Sea and Baltic Sea
Hamburg is often referred to as the gateway to the world – but it doesn’t have to be that far away. Both the North Sea and the Baltic Sea are just a hop, skip and a jump away from Hamburg!
The first tour of your road trip with the camper van could be from Hamburg to St. Peter Ording , for example. It only takes around 90 minutes to drive to the famous town with the endlessly wide beach on the North Sea. The special thing here is that you can drive your camper directly onto the beach during the day – and there’s no better way to enjoy the first coffee of your camping vacation than with your feet in the sand!
Or do you want to rent a motorhome from Hamburg to go kitesurfing or windsurfing? Then let the wind blow around your nose at the Baltic Sea and get on the boards. By camper, for example, it only takes around two hours from Hamburg to Fehmarn, one of the surfing hotspots on the Baltic Sea. Take the A1 past Lübeck (be sure to plan a stop if you like marzipan and beautiful old towns) to the popular vacation island. There you will find many campsites right by the water and often within walking distance of surfing spots. Camping Strukkamphuk right at the southern end of the island is a very nice place where many surfers and their caravans can be found.
Shuttle service for our customers coming from outside Hamburg
If you are traveling to Hamburg to rent your camper van here, you don’t have to do it by car. The journey is more relaxed if you take the train to Hamburg Central Station. You can either be picked up from there by our shuttle service or take the opportunity to explore the city center a little more. The two shopping streets Mönckebergstraße and Spitalerstraße, which leave nothing to be desired, start directly in front of the station. Hamburg City Hall and the Binnenalster lake with the famous Alster fountain are also within walking distance. If you want to combine renting your camper van with exploring the beautiful Hanseatic city and spend one or even more days here, the best time to travel is from May to September. Because in spring and fall, Hamburg tends to live up to its reputation and it rains more often.
Do you want to fill the fridge before you start your trip with the caravan from Hamburg? Then we recommend shopping in one of Hamburg’s best-stocked supermarkets – the Rindermarkthalle in St. Pauli. In the large Edeka you will find everything your heart desires and if you are out and about at the right time, Hamburg Cathedral, northern Germany’s largest funfair, is waiting for you right next door! And even if not, the adjacent trendy Sternschanze district invites you to take a stroll through the nice little cafés and boutiques.
