Dreamer vs.
Traveler

All aboard, please! Both the Dreamer and the Traveler have four seats and four beds.

The VW Bus is the absolute classic among compact motorhomes. And this is no coincidence: it offers the perfect balance between space and size. A large shopping trip? A trip into town? Four people and their luggage? Looking for a parking space? No problem at all. But the real secret of the Dreamer lies in the incredible Bulli feeling. And we’re really sorry but we can’t describe it, you just have to experience it yourself.

We recommend our panel van camper van to anyone who puts comfort first. Here you get a wet bath including shower and toilet so you don’t have to go without a restroom while traveling. After a cozy evening together at the table, you can go straight to the huge beds in the rear and in the pop-up roof without having to convert anything into a bed. Also on board of our spacious camper van: hot water, a large fridge and endless storage space. So our Traveler is definitely the first choice for larger trips (and those of you with little ones).

Rent a VW Bulli in Hamburg or Munich

A VW Bus can be the fulfillment of many vacation dreams, not only for members of the close-knit camper van community, but also for camping beginners. This camper van is particularly suitable for camping beginners because it offers the ideal combination of comfort and compactness. Many models have a sleeping bench and a pop-up or high roof for up to four people and offer enough space inside for a cozy seating area with a dining table. The built-in kitchenette ensures that you are well equipped when on the road. Compared to a larger camper van, however, the compact dimensions make it much more maneuverable and flexible, and nothing stands in the way of a city trip when renting a VW Bus – narrow streets and small parking spaces are no problem for the Bus. In addition, the Bulli simply exudes a unique charm and that special attitude towards life, which has a special appeal not only for newcomers.

Spoiled for Choice by the VW Bus

If you don’t want to buy your own vehicle right away, you can rent a VW bus to get started in the world of camping! For all newcomers, we have put together a detailed list with lots of tips for camping beginners. When booking a van today, you are spoiled for choice between different VW vehicles and different booking models.

One VW Bus – lots of different models

Anyone looking for the typical Bulli Charm and that special vintage feeling will be delighted with an older T2 or T3. Individualists should look for a privately converted VW Bulli to rent and the comfort-conscious will probably be happiest with a newer VW factory conversion. These are currently available in three different variants – but what are the differences between the VW California models?

The Difference between the VW California Beach, Ocean and Coast

The slimmed-down model is the VW California Beach. It offers a pop-up roof with a bed for two people and the bench seat can also be folded down to accommodate up to four people. However, there are no other camping extensions available.

To do this, it has to be a VW California Ocean or Coast, which are fully equipped camper vans including pop-up roof, kitchenette and other features. The biggest difference between these two models is the standard electro-hydraulic pop-up roof and the larger selection of optional features.

Various Bulli models available to rent

There are different offers and models on the camper van rental market. On the one hand, there are of course commercial providers who rent out vehicles from their own small or large fleet. Most of these are VW California factory conversions. These include providers who specialize in iconic, older campers, i.e. T2 – T4, as well as rental companies where you can only rent new VW California vehicles.

And on the other hand, there are platforms that, similar to Airbnb, offer the rental of privately owned camper vans. You can find everything from a simple self-built T3 to the latest VW California Ocean with all the extras. And the condition of the vehicles and the scope of the camping equipment they come with can be as varied as the models, as can the insurance, cleaning and mileage included.

Our Dreamer – not an „off the shelf“ – Bus

If you don’t want to rent an ordinary VW bus from a commercial provider, but one with a lot of charm and the comfort of a modern vehicle, then you’ve come to the right place and you can not go wrong with our VANTOPIA ‘Dreamer’. In addition to a lot of attention to detail, a lot of real wood and a large portion of coziness, we have also put a few technical refinements into our specially developed, individual VW bus conversion. For example, you can convert the bench seat into a comfortable sofa or turn the pop-up roof into a private roof deck with a panoramic view.

If you’ve been bitten by the campervan bug and fancy an unforgettable vacation in a campervan, you can rent our VW bus directly from Hamburg or Munich right here.

The VW Bulli – a legend at a glance

The myth surrounding the VW T-model, fondly known as the ‘Bulli’, began over 65 years ago – the first series-produced VW T1s rolled off the production line in 1959. Since then, the VW Bus has made its way into the hearts of its ever-growing fan base and has become a truly iconic car.

The T1 was originally built for transportation purposes, but even then it was popular with hobbyists and was converted in many different ways thanks to its spaciousness. Even today, the VW Bus is still one of the most frequently converted private vehicles.

Starting as a transportation van and developing into a true icon

In 1960, the VW Bulli was first built as series-produced in the ‘Samba’ edition – with 8 seats in three rows and additional doors and windows. With its chic appearance in the classic two-tone design, it now also appealed to families. And with the first camping conversion from Westfalia, which contributed significantly to the Bulli culture, the development into a popular motorhome began. The imaginative and at the time very innovative equipment with bench seat, cupboard, sideboard and the option of converting the bench seat into a bed turned the VW Bus into a private hotel on wheels.

A Synonym for Freedom and Individuality

Then and now, the VW Bulli series symbolizes freedom, wanderlust and individuality. Just drive away, chase the sun and enjoy life. In the German post-war era, a car embodied a new attitude towards life – an attitude of carefree living. As a result, it quickly mutated into an object of desire and an object of status. Owners usually gave THEIR Bulli a very individual touch with personal accessories, such as a self-crocheted tablecloth, decorations and their own fittings. As a result of this and the many experiences in and with the camper, many develop an almost loving relationship with their vehicles – and often give them their very own nickname. Whether Bussy, Bertha, Bruno or red rocket, there are no limits to creativity.

Hippie and Surfer lifestyle in a van

The hippie and ’68 movements, as well as the surfer community, also play an important role in the history of the VW Bus. Not only, but especially in the USA, the VW Bus became the epitome of a relaxed and cool lifestyle for young people in the late 60s and 70s. Images of vans on the beach, at festivals, with fairy lights, campfires and guitar players in tie-dyed shirts spread and the camper van increasingly became an object of longing onto which many projected their desire for more freedom and adventure. Perhaps the association of the US state of California with hippies, surfing, summer, sun and sunshine was the deciding factor in naming the first factory-built T3 camper by VW & Westfalia the VW California in 1988.

The Bulli-Community is alive and well

Whether small or large, the VW Bulli still stands for adventure today and its iconic status is unbroken. Owners share their experiences in countless forums, the community regularly arranges vanlife get-togethers and entire van festivals are held, such as the annual one on Fehmarn.
